The crew also includes George's son Rowan (Chris D'elia), who, ironically, is the only one in the group with no previous knowledge of fishing, having been raised by his aunt in an orphanage. The other members are Sam (Garry Davies), a short-tempered ex-military man, whose wife left him when he was overseas fighting in World War II; Dimitri (Matthew Poon), a mysterious Russian drifter addicted to opium; and Charlie (Neil Campbell).The inhabitants of the small island ignore all requests for help. The captain has to leave behind his wife Jules (Natalie Becker) and daughter Ella (Hannah McLeod) in order to sail across the ocean. As he approaches the small island, George's boat is taken by storm while he is below deck. He emerges with his wife and daughter, who decide to fight on board while George stays behind in order for him to escape the storm. While the crew tries to sail back towards the mainland, they are brought back by another storm where Dimitri saves their lives by sacrificing himself in return for Charlie's safety. While Charlie (the only survivor of the ordeal) proceeds to find help for his near-dead crewmates on land, Rowan puts his life on line to swim through strong waves towards safety. When they finally get back to mainland, everyone goes their separate ways. The captain finally loses his job and decides to move towards a new and more financially secure and rewarding one. However, at that moment, news arrives that George has died. The movie ends on a dramatic note with Dimitri's death. Rowan makes his way back to the island where he discovers Dimitri is still alive, but trapped in the ghost ship. Rowan helps him get out of the ship (while Dimitri is still fearing of being killed by Sam), and they both start swimming away from the boat.
